A family of friendly snakes welcome you to Chinatown.
These playful snake sculptures feature two parents and a child on a day out. The yellow bellies and red bodies of the snakes symbolise prosperity and positivity in Asian culture.
While the snakes have come to explore Chinatown, they have also become a part of the city itself. As visitors encounter these whimsical snakes, they also become a part of the city; exploring, playing and and creating shared moments of laughter.
This installation celebrates togetherness and the rich narratives that shape the city during Sydney Lunar Festival.
Made from locally sourced marine plywood and reusable materials, the snakes were created by Haymarket HQ and Basalt Studio.
Download the Sydney Culture Walks app to see the locations of all lanterns, artwork installations, banner galleries and more in the Lunar Walk.
