STORYBOX comes to Darling Square this April, taking up residency outside The Exchange building with a curated digital program exploring the many lives of Sydney through time.
Supported by the City of Sydney through its CBD Activations Program, STORYBOX SYDNEY creates a time portal centred around ideas of regeneration and transformation in the city.
The installation, which runs from 23 April until 30 June 2021, is led by ESEM Projects and builds on the STORYBOX Parramatta program launched in Parramatta Square in October 2020.
A 3D digital cube made of solar panels, STORYBOX features a rolling, curated program of digital programming, creating a portal into Sydney scenes through time. It features digital archives, video art, short films, data interactives, citizen-science activities and animated 'tiny stories'.
More about STORYBOX Sydney
The STORYBOX Sydney program is presented by ESEM Projects in partnership with the ABC's Content Ideas Lab, the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS), the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIIRO), the Sydney Writers Festival and Story Factory.
There are lots of ways residents and the community can participate.
Climate futures, now: Share your stories
Reflecting on states of transformation in the city of Sydney, from past lives to future visions, the STORYBOX program invites contributions from the community around climate futures.
The City of Sydney declared a climate emergency in June 2019, stating that climate change poses a serious risk to the people of Sydney. We invite reflections on how climate futures are increasingly part of our present day lives. How does the climate future change your life today?
Submit a 'Tiny Story of Change' Share a short piece of writing that reflects on personal states of transformation shaped by the climate emergency.
Artists and creatives EOI: Share a short video, photographic essay or digital artwork for exhibition on STORYBOX around the themes of personal transformation and regeneration.
Mood Ring: Users can participate in a digital interactive on site, to create a collective, data-driven 'mood ring'.
Awards are given to selected contributions. For more details go to storybox.co/contribute.
