The first Australian incarnation of the famed US hotel brand, Ace Hotel Sydney is the venue partner of Sydney Design Week 2022. A program of events and talks take place around the hotel, in spaces designed by Flack Studio and Fiona Lynch Office.

In addition to the program, view the hotel's permanent art collection featuring a selection of new work by Sydney-based designer/makers, throughout the hotel and lobby areas.

Tickets can be purchased for individual events. A day pass can be purchased for Friday at Ace by selecting a ticket to all 3 panels, you will receive a complimentary drink at a preview of Kiln in the evening.

Panel 1 Making Sydney

Friday 16 September 2pm - 2.45pm

Leaders from the fields of urban planning and public policy, landscape design, First Nations curatorship, and sustainability unite for a panel discussion focusing on the dynamics of Sydney. Featuring Jess Miller, Grace Mortlock, Emily McDaniel, and hosted by Sydney Design Week Creative Director Stephen Todd.

Panel 2 Designer Makers

Friday 16 September 3pm - 3.45pm

A discussion about the evolving nature of design and a consideration of pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial creativity with David Flack, Nell, Elliat Rich, Sanné Mestrom and host Karen McCartney.

Panel 3 Taste Makers

Friday 16 September 4pm - 4.45pm

Style leaders of Sydney's best restaurants, including Fiona Lynch, Mitch Orr, Alex Kelly and Stuart Couzens with Australian Financial Review food critic Jill Dupleix.

Play Community Clay

A takeover of Good Chemistry - the laneway cafe and gallery space at Ace Hotel Sydney - and the adjoining Foy Lane for a weekend of PLAY led by Karen Black and a group of renowned and rising Australian ceramicists. The program is curated by Flack Studio, the interior design studio for Ace Hotel Sydney, and invites members of the public of all ages to participate in creating a small ceramic piece under the guidance of artists, many of whose works appear throughout Ace Hotel Sydney. These public-made figures will then become part of a growing exhibition in Good Chemistry for the week. The exhibition will be supported by a sound installation of the designers talking to the history of ceramics in Australia. Sign-up to learn when tickets are available.

Kiln

A day pass can be purchased for Friday at Ace, giving access to all panels, and a complimentary drink at a preview of Kiln in the evening.

Kiln interior designer Fiona Lynch Office joins visitors for drinks and snacks by Chef Mitch Orr, while taking in the 360-degree view of Sydney. Featuring furniture, textiles and joinery custom-made for Kiln by Australian makers.
