How often do you slow down and ponder the stories held by the ground beneath your feet, the beauty of the paths we tread each day or the histories evident in the fragmented material fabric of our city's streets?
Treasures abound when you cast your eyes to the ground!
Following in the footsteps of local contemporary artist Alex Karaconji's Flâneur, City of Sydney curator Rebecca Anderson will take to the streets, casting our eyes to the ground and following our feet on a circuitous amble through inner Sydney, discovering artworks and objects from the Civic Collection as we go.
This virtual wander will take us from the National Art School in Darlinghurst, through Woolloomooloo and the CBD to Circular Quay. Pausing at intervals along this journey we will ponder how the pavements, paths, streets and sideroads reveal a history of continuous transformation and the way this has been interpreted by contemporary artists.
Rebecca Anderson is Assistant Curator at the City of Sydney. Along with Margaret Betteridge, City of Sydney Curator, she manages the Civic Collection of art, furnishings, memorabilia and official gifts.
Register for this talk as part of the City of Sydney's program for History Week, the statewide festival coordinated by the History Council of NSW. For more events happening around the state, check out the History Council's online festival calendar.
This event will be Auslan interpreted.
