Anthropologist and Senior-curator of the Macleay Collections at Chau Chak Wing Museum, Dr Jude Philp, will present this year's Iain McCalman Lecture.
In her talk, Dr Philip will offer new perspectives to contemplate environmental futures through curatorial and academic knowledge on the cultural and social circumstances under which objects were collected for museums in the nineteenth century.
The talk will explore how museums have helped shape a 'wilful ignorance' of Pacific peoples' lives in Australia, in the context of the revolutionary change taking place within international museums, thanks largely to the work of First Nations peoples globally.
