The Astrosite is a world first neuromorphic-inspired mobile telescope observatory engineered by The International Centre for Neuromorphic Systems (ICNS) for space situational awareness. It employs event based vision sensors, which operate much like the human eye - where each pixel independently reacts to changes in light with microsecond precision.
This innovative design enables dramatic advances in efficiency - Astrosite captures only meaningful changes (like a satellite passing through the field of view), drastically reducing data volume (by factors of 10 to 1000 ), consuming much less power and operating effectively both day and night under challenging lighting conditions.
These features make Astrosite especially adept at tracking high-speed objects such as satellites, monitoring space debris, providing early collision warnings and even functioning from mobile platforms rather than fixed observatories-all of which represent a game-changing capability for space monitoring and defence applications.
