Lloyd Swanton's exuberant and much-loved worldbeat/jazz ensemble The Catholics are something of an institution at the Foundry, and now they're back to lift your spirits in the midst of COVID, with the second of two September shows.
Over nearly three decades together The Catholics have had some very special guests, and this time we're proud to welcome the amazing Jeremy Rose on saxophone and bass clarinet - playing his debut shows with the band - and also to welcome back the wonderful Jess Ciampa on percussion.
Leader Swanton is on bass, and Jeremy Rose (saxophones, bass clarinet), James Greening (trombone, pocket trumpet), Jess Ciampa (percussion), Gary Daley (piano accordion, melodica), Jon Pease (guitar), and Hamish Stuart (drums) round out this incredible ensemble.
The Catholics, now in their 29th year, play toe-tapping music that rewards equally the head and the heart.
Every show is an exuberant display of wit, humanity, and breathtaking musicianship. Just the thing for these times.
Fantastic food and drink served from 6:30 pm. Drop-in before the gig! COVID-19 Safe plan
There is a perspex screen behind which must be used by all singers. All patrons are socially distanced inside the venue at 1.5 metres between groups and individuals and groups, people have to use sanitiser on entry, they then enter their individual contact details and are taken to their seat.
There are face masks available for those who want them, people with any symptoms of colds or repeating dry coughs are not admitted and if such symptoms only become visible after entry would be asked to leave.
There is only table service except for those who are seated at the bar. There is no standing in groups allowed. There are containers of sanitiser on the bar in three places and highly visible, and staff frequently use sanitiser throughout the evening too.
