Macquarie Street was intended as a ceremonial thoroughfare by Governor Macquarie and was the site of Sydney's first permanent public buildings.

A fashionable address during the nineteenth century, it also became the focus of Sydney's medical profession.

The history of Macquarie Street is reflected in the buildings that line it - among them major public institutions, and significant examples of twentieth century architecture.

It is also the site of some of Sydney's most distinctive civic adornments.

An opportunity to explore the riches of a most important street, guided by a heritage architect and historian.
