Watch people tell stories or tell a story at this virtual storySLAM by the famous The Moth storytelling event. The Moth is taking its story slams virtual with its Virtual StorySLAM series and on 3 August 2020, it's Melbourne's turn!
The theme for the Melbourne night is enthusiasm, so expect invigorating short stories on being enthused, going full force without a thought of failure, and things that make people screech with excitement.
If you register as a storyteller, you'll need to be prepared to be featured on camera, so you'll need to consider where you're seated and ensure there is adequate lighting, that you are wearing appropriate apparel, and that there is minimal noise pollution where you are streaming from. Also, it is preferred that those telling a story stand if they are able to, so keep this in mind too. The organisers state that your spot may be forfeited if these criteria are not met.
If you would just like to sit back and not speak and simply enjoy the show and the stories being told, buy a household admission ticket. You only need one ticket for your whole household to watch and enjoy the storytelling, with a ticket only being $16.19 with fees. You can register for the event here.
According to the event, you can expect a lot of the same features as the in-person SLAMs, which are famous for its storytelling events.
An acclaimed not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling, The Moth has presented more than ten thousand stories, told live and without notes, to standing-room-only crowds worldwide. It has a variety of ongoing programmes, such as The Moth Mainstage, The Moth StorySLAMs, The Moth Community & Education Programs, and Moth Corporate Programs.
It received a 2012 John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation MacArthur Award for Creative & Effective Institutions (MACEI) and also now runs The Moth podcast, which is downloaded nearly 25 million times a year.
Amp up your night in with some virtual storytelling! Get excited, grab some popcorn and pom poms and get ready to listen or get your best enthusiasm themed story ready to go and get hoping you get picked!
