In line with WorldPride arriving in Sydney this February, the iconic Queen Victoria Building will be honouring 5 Queens of the LGBTQIA+ community, and renaming itself after one of the chosen Queens each week.

The Queens have had incredible portraits taken (screen shot below), which will be hung in the QVB from tomorrow for the public to see.

Our Queens are -

  1. Trans icon and cabaret star Carlotta

  2. Queer activist Ken Davis who created Gay Solidarity Group which initiated the first ever Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978

  3. Independent Sydney MP Alex Greenwich

  4. Janine Middleton, who together with Alex Co-Chaired Australian Equality and achieved marriage equality in Australia

  5. Indigenous drag queen and performer Felicia Foxx

To mark the official renaming, tomorrow at 11:30am (7th of February), we will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at the QVB.

It will be a colourful celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community, with our five queens all onsite, as well as iconic Ru Paul's drag queen Kita Mean there to cut the giant rainbow ribbon, and Queens of the QVB , Alright, Hey!, and Dom Skii.

QVB x Sydney WorldPride Renaming

The QVB renaming will recognise and highlight the Queen's significant contributions to the LGBTQIA+ community.

The 5 Queens of the QVB will be legendary entertainer, trans icon and cabaret star Carlotta, queer activist Ken Davis who convened the Gay Solidarity Group which initiated the first ever Sydney Mardi Gras in 1978, Independent Sydney MP Alex Greenwich and Janine Middleton, who together Co-Chaired Australian Equality and successfully fought and achieved marriage equality in Australia and indigenous drag queen and performer Felicia Foxx who passionately advocates for visibility and empowerment for young indigenous queer people.
