Live music returns to Peach Black Gallery in the heart of winter with an all-star lineup, featuring Aria nominated Eishan Ensemble and nationally acclaimed folk singer Julia Johnson as part of their annual weekend winter festival celebrating art and music.
With four concerts over four days, The Winter Collective, a regular sellout event, celebrates live and local sounds surrounded by the carefully curated artworks by multiple award-nominated visual artist Matteo Bernasconi.
Opening are nationally acclaimed vocalists - Ines and Angela Rosero - who join forces for the first time ever bringing their respective sounds together, soul, R&B and Latin, weaving their way through Latin classics with a soulful twist, accompanied by a trio made up of guitar, percussion and clarinet.
Friday night sees Australian singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Julia Johnson to the stage with her trio. Supporting the likes of Courtney Barnett, Tim Rogers, and Pete Murray, Julia's voice has been compared to Florence Welch, Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling, and even a 'treacherous mountain river'. Performing in trio format, the arrangements are ornamented with ethereal harmonies and rhythms that swell and recede like a king tide.
'Love the way this one swells up and up, and also the blend of the autoharp with more modern production; really pretty' Zan Rowe - ABC
Saturday night the audience will be treated to the sounds of Portuguese Fado Music - both traditional and contemporary styles performed by two Sydney ensembles - Alma Orquestra and Fado duo Ricardo da Silva and Sonia de Freitas. The evening will draw on inspiration from Portuguese styles, infused with elements of jazz, pop and classical music.
The final concert Sunday afternoon hosts Aria nominated Eishan Ensemble, led by acclaimed Persian-Australian tar player and composer, Hamed Sadeghi.
Drawing on contemporary and classical music traditions of both east and west, Eishan's repertoire consists predominantly of Sadeghi's original compositions with diverse improvisatory idioms featured powerfully. Variously described as 'Persian chamber jazz' and 'Middle-Eastern jazz fusion', Eishan defies neat labels.
Peach Black Gallery has created a name for itself as a space that celebrates both visual and performing arts, with carefully curated events by visual artist Matteo Bernasconi and Music promoter Anna Griffiths.
This series will be a feast for the ears and the eyes appealing to art loves and music lovers alike. Book now.
