Do you believe in the power of story to create change? Do you want to work towards a point where the Story Holders own and control their story? If this sounds like you, this is the program for you.

Our Race, with the support of the City of Sydney, are running an innovative program all about the powers of storytelling. This 4 week program will provide participants with the opportunity to better understand how stories are created, who they benefit and how to support a more ethical storytelling process. As leaders, longstanding and emerging, this workshop series will provide you with the knowledge and tools to improve storytelling practices within your workplace and/or communities.

By taking an anti-racist standpoint we focus on the impacts that ongoing colonisation continues to make in storytelling across the many nations often referred to as Australia. We prioritise the voices and stories of First Nations people to reveal the truth of our past, present and future.

 Why are we doing this?

Storytelling is all around us but too often our stories are told by someone else without really considering the creative input of the story holder. Our Race has been working on the Transformational Ethical Storytelling (TES) framework to take a more storyteller-centred approach to how stories are created, curated and told.

Through a collaborative partnership with Marque Lawyers and the support of Terri Janke and Company we have been able to create the framework and resources, including workshops to educate Story Holders and advocates for ethical storytelling practices.

We have delivered these programs to a number of organisations but now want to offer a semi-intensive program for people who want to lead TES education and advocacy within their communities and workplaces.

 What is included?

Each workshop will include 2 experienced storytelling facilitators who will share their insights on Transformational Ethical Storytelling in education, business, advocacy and the arts. Facilitators will bring in their own lived experiences as storytellers, listeners, educators and advocates for racial and social justice.

At the end of this program you will better understand the power and power dynamics of storytelling. You will also be in a position where you will be able to lead conversations within your workplace and/or communities on how we can take a more ethical approach to storytelling by taking a Story Holder-centric perspective.

When is it?

This 4 week workshop will be delivered on the following dates:

  • Workshop 1- Wednesday 12 May 6:30- 8:30pm

  • Workshop 2- Wednesday 19 May 6:30-8:30pm

  • Workshop 3- Wednesday 26 May 6:30-8:30pm

  • Workshop 4- Wednesday 2 June 6:30-8:30pm

 Where is it?

We will run all workshops online via zoom.
