The Wesley Music Centre Wednesday Lunchtime series welcomes back the innovative and talented double bassist, Kyle Ramsay-Daniel, performing works by Giovanni Bottesini. Kyle will be accompanied on the piano by Ella Luhtasaari.
In the 19th century, Bottesini almost single handedly created a paradigm shift in how the double bass was perceived as a solo instrument. Widely regarded as the ‘Paganini of the double bass', he pushed the technical limits of the instrument far beyond what was accepted at the time. His compositions ranged from lyrical miniatures and fantasies on popular operatic themes, to virtuosic concertos, many of which form a cornerstone of the double bass repertoire even to this day. Kyle's concert will provide a taste of this repertoire.
