Pickleball on Tuesdays and Fridays 2020
Perry Park Recreation Centre will be running casual Pickleball weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays.Pickleball is a low-impact fun game that's easy to learn and suitable for all ages. It is a combination of tennis- ping-pong and badminton that is played on a court about the size of a badminton court. It is played with a paddle and perforated ball.Pickleball is a great way to improve your fitness. Playing the sport will get you moving and make you feel great in the process.Come by yourself or bring a friend- everyone will share the courts when they play.For more information about the centre- please visit our website.Please note that no injury insurance will be provided.Participants play at their own risk. If you have any concerns about participating in the program- please speak with you medical professional. Archibald- Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2020
The Archibald- Wynne and Sulman Prizes is an annual exhibition eagerly anticipated by artists and audiences alike.The Archibald Prize- first awarded in 1921- is Australia's favourite art award- and one of its most prestigious. Awarded to the best portrait painting- it's a who's who of Australian culture - from politicians to celebrities- sporting heroes to artists.The Wynne Prize is awarded to the best landscape painting of Australian scenery- or figure sculpture- while the Sulman Prize is given to the best subject painting- genre painting or mural project in oil- acrylic- watercolour or mixed media.Each year- the trustees of the Art Gallery of NSW judge the Archibald and Wynne- and invite an artist to judge the Sulman. The 2020 judge is Khadim Ali.Visit the exhibition to vote for your favourite portrait in the ANZ People's Choice award before voting closes on 13 December and see the work of budding artists aged 5-18 on display in the Young Archies. Young Archie winners will be announced 24 October 2020.For families- there are also children's labels- a children's trail and an activity sheet with ideas for creating your own portraits at home.

City of Sydney Library Online Book Club 2020
Join our new monthly Online Book Club- hosted by our City of Sydney librarians.If you love reading and talking about books- this is a great opportunity to connect with other readers online and find inspiration for other titles to read. Our librarians have chosen a topic or theme for each month with a suggested reading list. Club participants are encouraged to read from the list or find other related titles in the online catalogue. Then join in the discussion and hear about what others have been reading too. Book Club is held on the last Thursday of the month via Zoom. Before the event- you'll need to install the free Zoom software on your own laptop- computer or device and read a book relating to reading topic for that month. It's free to participate in the Online Book Club- however you'll need to book to join the discussion each month and be a City of Sydney Library member.If you're not already a member- you can apply for a temporary library membership. Sydney Living Museums is delighted to launch an exciting new online program- House Music at Your House- inspired by the sheet music collection at Rouse Hill Estate. We've delved into the hundreds of popular songs that survive in the collection at Rouse Hill Estate in Sydney's north-west to bring you the top 20 hits of the 1840s and 50s - songs played across NSW- Australia and overseas.Every week until December visit the Sydney Living Museums website- to view a new musical score of a song enjoyed by the Rouse family and their friends- along with a video- a sound file or guitar chords. We've also asked a group of Sydney's leading musicians to share their interpretations of these popular hits from their homes.We invite you to make music with us bringing the music of the 19th century into the 21st century. Recreate these songs for the 2020s and make your own cover version of each week's song- turning music from 19th-century Rouse Hill House into music at your house in the 21st century. Short fiction and documentary film programme that covers the different expressions and representations of the LGBTI+ community with a clear commitment to give an image of the creativity around these identities.
