Polish Film Festival Sydney 2020
The 2020 edition of Polish Film Festival Sydney presents a range of contemporary and award-winning works from renowned and up and coming Polish filmmakers.The Festival opens with one of the most expensive Polish film productions of all time. THE LEGIONS by Dariusz Gajewski is an epic history drama that follows a love triangle set against the backdrop of the heroic struggle of Polish Legions to win independence from Tsarist Russia.Closing the Festival is the Australian premiere of CHARLATAN- a fascinating biographical drama by three time Oscar nominee Agnieszka Holland (Mr.Jones- Spoor- Europa Europa) of an exceptional Czech healer who cured thousands with plant-based remedies.Another highlight of the programme is the all-star VALLEY OF THE GODS from visionary director Lech Majewski- starring John Malkovich- Josh Harnett (Black Hawk Down)- Berenice Marlohe (Skyfall)- Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey) and John Rhys-Davies (Lord of the Rings trilogy). A cross between fantasy and sci-fi takes the viewers on a surreal journey between three interweaving stories to illustrate the clash between traditions of ancient civilizations and the modern high-tech world of the super rich.Brimming with jazz ICARUS. THE LEGEND OF MIETEK KOSZ by Maciej Pieprzyca (Life Feels Good) is a moving drama inspired by the true story of blind piano prodigy Mietek Kosz- starring the brilliant Dawid Ogrodnik with music by one of the most acclaimed Polish jazz pianists and music composers- Leszek Mozdzer.Also screening this year are two feature debuts from female directors. THE TASTE OF PHO by Japan born and Poland based Mariko Bobrik is a warm story of a Vietnamese cook living in Warsaw and struggling to fit into the European culture- which his ten year old daughter has already embraced as her own. THE IRON BRIDGE by Monika Jordan-Mlodzianowska is a dramatic story about a love triangle set in a Silesian mining community.For our younger audience we have THE DAY OF CHOCOLATE- a delightful adaptation of the award-winning book by Anna Onichimowska under the same title- about the adventures of Monika and Dawid. Weaving Circle workshop 2020
Using a variety of grasses- vines and inflorescence for weaving- we will construct a traditional basket or perhaps something more sculptural- limited only by your imagination.You will have the opportunity to make two small baskets- one using a twining technique- and and the other a random weave style. Or perhaps you would like to focus on a larger piece of one style only. The choice is yours. We chat about different grasses- how to prepare for weaving and good places for foraging. Different techniques are discussed and also which style is suitable for specific fibres and grasses.Covid-safe guidelinesThe safety of our visitors- artists- teachers- staff and volunteers is vital.We are observing strict physical distancing and hygiene measures to protect the health of visitors and staff and minimise the spread of Covid-19.These include enhanced cleaning regimes- social distancing and limits on the number of people in the gallery- sanitiser and hand washing facilities and changes to our class sizes.Don't visit if you're unwell or- if in the last 14 days- you have experienced cold or flu symptoms- have returned from overseas or have been to or had contact with someone from a Covid hotspot. Visitors are required to provide their name and contact details on arrival at the Gallery- to support contact tracing in line with NSW Health rules and our Covid-Safe plan.floor markings and signage to help visitors maintain safe distances.There are limits on the number of visitors overall and the Gallery space has its maximum capacity- based on the rule of 1 person per 4 square metres.Please don't touch the artworks.We are also available for private viewings of our exhibitions by prior arrangement.

Waiting in the Wings' is an expressive display of works focusing on the texture and shape of the tutu- whilst emanating the natural dance of tree branches. Dianne's mixed media artworks are brimming with energy and colour- both quirky and upbeat. See website for two casual workshop offerings on 22 and 29 October. Release your inner-whatever you want and do it all in a cosy environment- creating a core ensemble.We work with the basics of Viola Spolin's concepts to get comfortable with the group mind. This class is great for people new to improv or improvisers and actors who want to break habits and get back to simple- basic fun.The ITS curriculum is progressive. Level one focuses on simple creativity and group mind- level two works on creating scenes through strong character choices and relationships- level three takes your scenework and combines it with stagecraft techniques (and is the first level to have a grad show performance)- level four elevates your two person scenes and culminates in the longform format La Ronde- level five is a complete performance in the ITS iteration of The Harold- level six uses all previous levels- works on different longform styles- and explores formats and ways of playing.Improv Theatre Sydney is a registered COVID Safe business. Emma Pask 2020
Award-winning artist Emma Pask has established herself as one of Australia's favourite jazz vocalists. Showcasing expert versatility- Emma can swing through jazz standards- ride Latin rhythms or pour her heart into tender ballads. Discovered at just 16- Emma's long and decorated career has seen her perform at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London- the Sydney Opera House and support 70's disco and funk legend George Benson. Emma is always surrounded by the cream of Australian jazz- and these intimate festival performances are no different. Experimental and exploration of wax 2020
A fun exploration in using wax to create wearable and none wearable objects.Such techniques as dipping- molding- carving and even alternatives to create and assemble prior to casting in potentially both precious and non-precious metals.This class can also be classed as a projects class and is open to all skill levels.Covid-safe measuresDue to social distancing regulations we are limited to allow 4 persons max in each of our classes. Priority will be given to students already enrolled in prior to lock-downs and class allocation will then be first in- best dressed basis. Schedules and classes have changed slightly. So please take the time to look through the class options and schedules below. Please email with 2 options if there more than one day to choose from.It's important that all students wear COVID Safe face masks during classes when possible and have their own workshop apron. Be ready to laugh- shimmy and play! Bring the entire family along and participate in this inclusive and collaborative experience. Our artist-educator will guide your family through the exhibition Lindy Lee: Moon in a Dew Drop- stopping at a few key artworks to have a closer look and partake in some creative learning strategies that the whole family will enjoy.To follow Covid-19 safety guidelines- each tour is limited to two families with a maximum of 5 people per family.
