Vermilion Art is pleased to announce its first solo exhibition by acclaimed Chinese artist- Li Jin.To Live [It Up] has been curated by leading art critic- John McDonald- a long-term admirer of his work.From 2001-2013 Li Jin's brush-and-ink paintings were exhibited in Sydney- with great success- by the late Ray Hughes. Over the past decade Li Jin has become a global favourite- exhibiting extensively in museums and private galleries in China- Europe and the United States- where his work has been acquired by institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art- New York and the Boston Museum of Fine ArtsChinese ink painting may conjure up thoughts of serene- landscapes- flowers and birds- but Li Jin takes a very different approach. Although he is steeped in tradition- and master of many techniques- his pictures are bold- whimsical and sensual - hedonistic celebrations of the pleasures of food- drink and sex - seen through a frame of self-deprecating humour.To Live [It Up]features 38 works- including a suite of 20 small- idiosyncratic coloured ink paintings- eight ink sketches incorporating his distinctive calligraphy- two painted fans- five semi-abstract ink pieces- two large- scale works on paper and one magnificent scroll painting.According to John McDonald- To Live [It Up] has a message that relates to both China's recent history and the COVID-19 outbreak: 'Having come through the hard times- we should make the most of the good times.' Or as Li Jin himself puts it: 'My appetite for life and my desire to express myself have not been diminished by the pandemic. If you already know the basics of the bridge game or you have just finished the Beginners Course- you may want to consider refreshing or expanding your knowledge with our Face-to-Face Improvers Courses. These courses will run for 6 weeks (once a week) - 3 lessons on card play and 3 lessons on bidding- with notes and practice play at each session. Madison McKoy has 9 older siblings and in keeping with Claire's Kitchen Viva il Divo theme- he presents his cabaret 'Il Decimo Figlio' The Tenth Child. Being the youngest isn't always what it's cracked up to be but sometimes... it is.Madison has released an album of original compositions of the same name - a couple you'll hear in 'Il Decimo Figlio'. Rest assured- no singing will be attempted in Italian. Join Madison on an alacritous journey in story and song from his stage-life to his life-life. You'll hear some immediately recognisable tunes as well as originals. Madison will be accompanied by the lovely- Bev Kennedy on keys.We last saw Madison on stage in the role of Mr. Beauregard in the Australian tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He most recently featured in Guy Sebastian's music video Standing With You. Madison also appeared on stage as the flamboyant Willie in the Australian Premiere of the Off-Broadway sensation The View Upstairs and the lovable fugitive slave Jim in Big River at Hayes Theatre. Other musical theatre credits include Miss Saigon- Sweet Charity- and What the World Needs Now. He also played the Apollo MC in the Australian tour of Buddy: The Musical and Toad in the Australian Shakespeare Company's production of The Wind in the Willows. Madison's feature film credits include The Mystery of Natalie Wood directed by Peter Bogdanovic and the USA docu-drama Your Number's Up: Blood Money. Madison has also presented his cabaret Yank Down Under at both Seymour Centre and City Recital Hall in Andrew Bukenya's cabaret series 2 x 20.Through his production company- MJM Entertainment Australia- Madison has presented shows including Soul Cabaret: Theatre Performers on a Soul Trip- Positive Vibes- Dream it! Do it! Live it! and the Heart & Soul Harbour Cruise to name a few. The workshop begins with short- structured technical exercises and lots of material play. Fabricating- decorating and joining will be demonstrated and everyone will leave looking fabulous!
