Out Of This World presented by Environmental Film Festival Australia (EFFA) is a thought-provoking online program running from Thursday 29 October - Sunday 8 November 2020 with films being screened on demand that will engage audiences in connective- participative and surprising ways. EFFA is taking a close look at the interactions between science- technology- philosophy and art- and aims to facilitate conversations that make the familiar unfamiliar - or strangely familiar and familiarly strange.Out Of This World will provide a social space to develop ideas- imagine the future- and rethink our relationship with ecology- science- fiction- science fiction- film- and more broadly- the Earth.This series of events kicks off with a keynote address from Dr Lewis Dartnall and the screening of Poissonsexe (Fishlove) by Olivier Babinet on Thursday 29 October at 7pm.Followed by seven feature films including the Australian premiere of Echoes of the Invisible screened on-demand and covering topics like the meat of the future- eight men and women sealed in an airtight terrarium in the Arizona desert- an adventurous quest that illustrates the issues of the modern world through the eyes of a child and many more!There are also panel discussions- masterclasses- a cooking workshop- mini-lectures and free kids activities.For more information and to buy tickets please visit www.effa.org.au

This unique 9-week course combines the 2 disciplines of drawing and sculpture in a friendly and accessible studio environment. This class is conducted within Covid-19 safe guidelines with student numbers limited and physical distancing implemented. The health of our students is a priority in the delivery of this course.Instruction in classic and contemporary sculpture- such as clay modelling and carving- is provided. Instruction will be provided in figure proportion- capturing volumes- rendering portrait features and observational drawing skills. Ideas can then be transferred to sculptures which display the acquired skills.No previous experience required. Beginners welcome.Tools provided. Clay can be purchased at venue.

The Art Gallery of NSW presents Streeton- a landmark exhibition of Australia's iconic impressionist- Arthur Streeton- whose brilliant evocations of light- land and sea captured the spirit and optimism of our country.Arthur Streeton is undeniably our greatest impressionist landscape painter and this exhibition reveals the seminal role he played in defining a unique vision of Australia- while exploring the evolution of his art over six decades.Featuring more than 150 paintings- drawings and watercolours from 42 public and private collections- some not exhibited publicly for more than 100 years- Streeton is an in-depth survey of the artist's unique contribution to Australian art from the 1880s to the 1940s.Two years in preparation- Streeton brings together sun-drenched impressionist landscapes from the 1880s- joyful depictions of Sydney Harbour in the 1890s- pastoral paintings from the 1920s and 30s- and a selection of artworks from the artist's international career painting in Egypt- England- Italy and WWI France.The first Streeton exhibition in quarter of a century and the most comprehensive since his 1931 lifetime retrospective at the Art Gallery of NSW- Streeton presents works from museums and galleries around Australia alongside paintings from the Gallery's extensive collection and rarely seen works from private collections.For families- there are also children's labels- a children's trail and an activity sheet with ideas for creating art at home.Streeton is supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency- Destination NSW.

A great opportunity to try something new with the guidance of a professional photographer- and come away with some new shots for your portfolio or album.We have a different photo theme each fortnight and the two hour sessions take place in different outdoor locations across Sydney.Each session starts with an introduction to the fortnight's theme- and our fab photography Instructor will chat about the camera settings and techniques to use. You'll then have time to take lots of photos- with the Instructor present to answer any questions. You'll receive feedback and have a chance to chat with everyone to share tips and ideas. We're a social bunch!What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). A web talk- by Lyle Young- CSB- from Ottawa- Canada- available on big screens at Christian Science Church- Glebe- with social distancing and Covid-19 registration.Mary Baker Eddy- who founded the Christian Science church- had a profound insight into the nature of God as infinite Love. She perceived that God is the only substance- intelligence and Life of the universe- without the opposition typically ascribed to darkness or evil. Moreover- Eddy realised that this was the basis of Jesus' healing works.Such an unusual theology might have ended as a footnote to history- except that Eddy and her students boldly used it to reinvigorate Christianity and its lost element of healing. Since then- some 65-000 accounts of healing have been verified and published — healings of everything from cancer to AIDS to blindness- from drug addiction to broken bones.To the degree that we understand our identity as purely spiritual — knowing that each of us shines- now and eternally- as a unique expression of infinite Love — we experience healing. The result is wellness- opportunity- spiritual progress- and the highest degree of joy.Lyle Young- CSB is a Christian Science practitioner- teacher and lecturer.
