Elysian Fields 2020
FIKA' is the new album by electric viola da gamba ensemble Elysian Fields. Inspired by Scandinavia- 'FIKA' is rooted in the Swedish ancestry of Artistic Director Jenny Eriksson- and her love of northern European jazz and Swedish baroque music. This beautiful international project sings to the gathering of friends- food and conversation through the idiosyncratic viola de gamba. Produced by saxophonist Matt Keegan and featuring the stunning vocals and violin of Susie Bishop- 'FIKA' takes inspiration from the frozen landscapes of Scandinavia- drawing on traditional folk music and language.Susie Bishop (voice-violin) Matt Keegan (saxophones) Jenny Eriksson (electric viola da ga gamba) Matt McMahon (piano) Siebe Pogson (bass guitar) Dave Goodman (drums)Special Support: Jo TrumanJosephine Truman is an artist skirting the boundary of tradition and experimentation. The Running Joke Comedy Club has headline shows every Thursday and Friday in October inside a secret basement bar in Darlinghurst.Each show consists of 4 of Australia's best stand-up comedians with resident compere Daniel Muggleton. A born entertainer- this veteran performer has covered a plethora of musical styles and settings- from lounge to swing and Afro-Cuban big band- delighting audiences. Madison McKoy has 9 older siblings and in keeping with Claire's Kitchen Viva il Divo theme- he presents his cabaret 'Il Decimo Figlio' The Tenth Child. Being the youngest isn't always what it's cracked up to be but sometimes... it is.Madison has released an album of original compositions of the same name - a couple you'll hear in 'Il Decimo Figlio'. Rest assured- no singing will be attempted in Italian. Join Madison on an alacritous journey in story and song from his stage-life to his life-life. You'll hear some immediately recognisable tunes as well as originals. Madison will be accompanied by the lovely- Bev Kennedy on keys.We last saw Madison on stage in the role of Mr. Beauregard in the Australian tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He most recently featured in Guy Sebastian's music video Standing With You. Madison also appeared on stage as the flamboyant Willie in the Australian Premiere of the Off-Broadway sensation The View Upstairs and the lovable fugitive slave Jim in Big River at Hayes Theatre. Other musical theatre credits include Miss Saigon- Sweet Charity- and What the World Needs Now. He also played the Apollo MC in the Australian tour of Buddy: The Musical and Toad in the Australian Shakespeare Company's production of The Wind in the Willows. Madison's feature film credits include The Mystery of Natalie Wood directed by Peter Bogdanovic and the USA docu-drama Your Number's Up: Blood Money. Madison has also presented his cabaret Yank Down Under at both Seymour Centre and City Recital Hall in Andrew Bukenya's cabaret series 2 x 20.Through his production company- MJM Entertainment Australia- Madison has presented shows including Soul Cabaret: Theatre Performers on a Soul Trip- Positive Vibes- Dream it!
