A one day introductory course where you will experience the use of a range of jewellery tools and techniques to make a simple but beautiful sterling silver ring.Our taster classes are perfect for absolute beginners with no previous experience. There are no formal entry requirements for this course. You do not need to be artistic or creative - you'll be surprised what you can create under the guidance of our expert tutors.The workshop begins with short- structured technical exercises and lots of material play in the morning. Then fabricating- decorating and joining will be demonstrated. You will be guided through the following techniques in this one day workshop: Saw piercing - Become proficient in setting up and using the jeweller's piercing saw to cut metal to size. Annealing- Soldering - You will gain an understanding in how to gently heat your metal to soften it- allowing you to then decorate and shape your metal. You will learn how to measure a ring size- form- shape and use a hand held oxy-gas torch to solder your silver ring. Texturing - You can add texture to your ring through a variety of different tools. Finishing - You will acquire knowledge of how to file and polish your finished design and introduce colour to your work using patination techniques.All materials are included. Including sterling silver to make your ring- copper sheet- brass sheet and consumables (saw blades- emery paper- patina).

Using a variety of grasses- vines and inflorescence for weaving- we will construct a traditional basket or perhaps something more sculptural- limited only by your imagination.You will have the opportunity to make two small baskets- one using a twining technique- and and the other a random weave style. Or perhaps you would like to focus on a larger piece of one style only. The choice is yours. We chat about different grasses- how to prepare for weaving and good places for foraging. Different techniques are discussed and also which style is suitable for specific fibres and grasses.Covid-safe guidelinesThe safety of our visitors- artists- teachers- staff and volunteers is vital.We are observing strict physical distancing and hygiene measures to protect the health of visitors and staff and minimise the spread of Covid-19.These include enhanced cleaning regimes- social distancing and limits on the number of people in the gallery- sanitiser and hand washing facilities and changes to our class sizes.Don't visit if you're unwell or- if in the last 14 days- you have experienced cold or flu symptoms- have returned from overseas or have been to or had contact with someone from a Covid hotspot. Visitors are required to provide their name and contact details on arrival at the Gallery- to support contact tracing in line with NSW Health rules and our Covid-Safe plan.floor markings and signage to help visitors maintain safe distances.There are limits on the number of visitors overall and the Gallery space has its maximum capacity- based on the rule of 1 person per 4 square metres.Please don't touch the artworks.We are also available for private viewings of our exhibitions by prior arrangement.

Would you like to communicate with Japanese people by saying more than just 'arigatoo' ('thank you')?The 10 week taster course is a practical online course- designed for absolute beginners- where you will develop basic speaking and listening skills in Japanese.Additionally- you will discuss Japanese culture and share your experiences based on the class topics (greetings- food- towns and shopping) to deepen your knowledge of Japan.On completion of this course- you will be able to:Exchange basic greetingsGive a simple self-introductionOrder food and drinksAsk for directions while looking at a mapAsk questions while shopping etc.This is also a suitable warm-up course for those considering learning Japanese in the long-term.Note: Japanese scripts (hiragana and katakana) are introduced for the purpose of pronunciation but are not taught in this course.

Spend a unique and memorable Saturday afternoon in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney unravelling the mysteries of perfume while exploring the most fragrant plants found in the Garden.Join perfume consultant Catherine du Peloux Menage- who will discuss the sense of smell- the science of scent- the history of perfume- and the creation of some of the most famous perfumes ever produced. Catherine has developed a practice as a scent stylist- speaker- and writer on perfume and the sense of smell- speaking on everything from the history of perfume to historical scents and stinks in the works of Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.The talk will be complemented by a walk through the Garden with our expert guides exploring the natural scents of the Garden- learning how plants use scents to attract pollinators and examining famous scents in the Garden including peppermint- lemon myrtle- lavender- patchouli- and more.This is the second annual Perfume Walk following last year's sold-out event. Waiting in the Wings' is an expressive display of works focusing on the texture and shape of the tutu- whilst emanating the natural dance of tree branches. Dianne's mixed media artworks are brimming with energy and colour- both quirky and upbeat.  See website for two casual workshop offerings on 22 and 29 October. Gallery NTK conducts art classes for adults with an emphasis on various techniques in painting and drawing. We are a multi award winning and the longest running Art School in the Inner West.All classes will run for a 10-week term and are facilitated by acclaimed professional artist and highly qualified visual arts teacher Norma Tahhan who holds a Master's in Fine Arts and Master's in Art Education.Students are encouraged to further develop their artistic and creative skills in various painting and drawing media and develop their creativity through expert tuition.
