With Autumn quickly approaching, now is the perfect time to celebrate the end of Summer. So make the most of the remaining sunny, warm weather and head out to see what Sydney has to offer. Below, we have curated a list of ideas including water activities, fresh food markets and iconic landmarks for you to anticipate!
Watch the Battle of the Boats
If you want to spend the rest of Summer near Sydney’s waters, then this is the perfect idea for you. The Battle of the Boats is an annual carnival whereby crews compete against each other to practice for the upcoming NSW Surf Life Saving Championships. This year, on the 22nd and 23rd of February, around 180 crews will compete in a thrilling competition on the pristine Elizabeth beach. This is an ideal opportunity for those who want to spend time at the beach and also enjoy some adrenaline fuelled competition.
Sydney Harbour Challenge
If boats are not exactly to your taste, you can instead look at canoe racing as an alternative. The Sydney Harbour Challenge is an Australian flagship marathon outrigger canoe event, attracting many competitors from other countries. In 2020, the race will be held on the 22nd of February, and will have an estimated 800 competitors from all around the world. It will also be crossing many of Sydney’s iconic landmarks such as the Harbour Bridge, Taronga Zoo and the Manly beach. So no matter which landmark you want to visit, you can still cheer them on and enjoy the competition.
Dine on the Summer of 69 menu
For those who want a more laid back activity to celebrate the end of the Summer, the Chiswick Garden is offering a 4 course menu at Chiswick Woollahra. The special “Summer of 69” menu celebrates the best of Summer produces, including lemon myrtle, prawns, mangos and coconut. This menu is available for lunch and dinner, and it set at $69 per person. So come along and enjoy the best food that Summer can give while they last.
Visit a farmers market
If you are someone who prefers to cook food at home instead of dining out, then there are plenty of farmers markets waiting for you. Celebrate fresh, quality produces, local businesses and the end of Summer by heading into one of Sydney’s markets and making a purchase. If you live near the northern suburbs, then the Bondi Farmers Markets is a great option, filled with seasonal goods such as artisan breads, seasonal fruits and vegetables and fresh flowers. Another option for people who are more interested in food is The Rocks Foodie Market, where you can get anything from smoked meats to gelato.
Watch Shaka – Sydney Bondi Openair 2020
Shaka is a 90 minute film highlighting the surfing adventures of Olympian Mathieu Crepel as he visits numerous locations worldwide such as Hawaii, Italy, Indonesia and France. At each place, he tackles the great waves with surfing skills, and showcases how people can connect with nature through sports. To view this film, Bondi is opening up its gates at 6pm, on the 24th of February.
