COVID-19 has impacted a substantial number of Australian events, leading to postponement or cancellation. While advice and laws surrounding events are continually altered, here are the main rules you need to know before deciding whether or not to go out for the upcoming few weeks.
The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) has recommended some limitations on organised gatherings. The general rules are:
- Less than 100 people for gatherings indoors
- Less than 500 people for gatherings outdoors
This means that upcoming events with large gatherings such as the Easter Show, Formula 1 Melbourne Grand Prix and One Day International series have all been cancelled. Thus, please be aware that any events posted on UpNext which involves large gatherings may also be cancelled. You can find more information on rules and regulations around events in Australia on the AHPPC website.
However, if you do intend on going outside, then it would be a good idea to have some basic protection with you such as hand sanitisers and masks, and to practice good hygiene by coughing into your arms and cleaning your hands regularly. If you are feeling unwell, then be cautious and try to stay at home. You can find more information on how to protect yourself and your loved ones on health alerts.
