Join us for a festive Public Reading

Attending this event will be a great way to kick start the festive season and get you in the holiday mood. Charles Dickens famous festive tale A Christmas Carol was first published in 1843 and has become a firm holiday favourite ever since.

A Christmas Carol

The story of A Christmas Carol follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and bitter old man who hates Christmas. However, on one cold Christmas Eve everything changes. Three ghosts visit Scrooge leading him on a terrifying journey. The ghosts take Scrooge to view his past, present and future, so he can see the error of his cruel ways. This festive tale has twists and turns, ghosts and ghouls and a heart warming sentiment.

About Geoffrey Usher

Geoff Usher is a former teacher, professional actor and was a Unitarian minister at Sydney Unitarian Church between 1976-1991.

He served as Minister of Upper Chapel, Sheffield, England, 1991-2010. In 1993, to mark the 150th anniversary of its publication, he gave his first public reading of A Christmas Carol. It became a much-acclaimed annual part of Sheffield's Christmas celebrations until he retired in 2010 and returned to Australia.

A member of the international Dickens Fellowship since 1970, Geoff is also a member of the NSW Dickens Society. We are excited for Geoffrey to continue this tradition with our 2022 public reading at SMSA.
