Connect Sydney is a City of Sydney program aiming to build the capacity of community and not-for-profit organisations through the provision of free skills and governance training, partly funded by the Department of Communities and Justice.
This training workshop is supporting local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of the community with an interest in further understanding governance, newly appointed to or planning to join local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations.
The workshop will be facilitated by the Burbangana Group, a 100% Aboriginal owned,for-purpose company.
We welcome any Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations operating within or servicing our area. Community, not-for-profit or charitable organisations that support children, young people, families or people experiencing or at risk of vulnerability can nominate 1 to 2 people to attend the workshop.
This online workshop will be held on Wednesday 23 June 10am-2.30pm with a break
Workshop topics under the broad heading of Roles and Responsibilities of Boards, will include:
Legislation types
Constitutions-Board models
Board meeting procedures
Policy development, strategic planning, risk assessment, codes of conduct, induction
Financial management
Conflicts of interest-understanding complexity of relationships and how they relate to Board members' responsibilities
Cultural governance versus requirements of western governance
