About the masterclass:
This workshop fuses elements of clowning, theatre making and physicality to delve into the use of comedy as a tool to evoke pathos and tension when creating new works of live performance. Students will undertake a series of physical exercises which focus on tension, repetition and deep listening to develop a process for approaching the taboo when creating new work.
Experience level:
Professional level performers, dancers, actors, theatre makers, directors, clowns and comedians.
About the workshop facilitator:
Defend laughter/Extend laughter. To use laughter for story telling. To use laughter to tell stories that are difficult to tell. To use laughter to create pathos. To use laughter to bring people together. To use laughter to activate people. To make them see something they may not have otherwise seen and illuminate a pathway for action. To use laughter to cry. To use laughter to disarm. To use laughter to welcome. To use laughter to provoke thought.
Hurrah Hurrah achieves this by 1) Creating new Australian multidisciplinary work, 2) Committing to developing artists over a long period and mixing experienced and early career artists in order to address opportunity imbalances in our arts community, 3) Actively seeking opportunities in rural and remote communities, 4) Seeking out new local stories through research and discourse and 5) Embracing experimentation and innovation in each new project.
