Lisa Murray and Laila Ellmoos will share the joys, pitfalls and many elements of writing a pithy biography of an alderman.
You will learn about the key elements of biography, important source material and resources, and how to summarise a life. Participants can 'adopt an alderman' from the Sydney's Aldermen website and try their hand at biographical research.
Around 500 men and women have served as aldermen or councillors on the City of Sydney Council since it was formed in 1842. Hundreds more served on the surrounding suburban councils that were absorbed into the City of Sydney local government area in the 20th century, including Redfern, Glebe and Newtown. These people have played a hands-on role in governing our suburbs and communities.
This online event is presented via Zoom. It will be Auslan interpreted. Book free tickets to register and receive the zoom link.
Lisa Murray is the City Historian and heads up the history team. Laila Ellmoos is a historian at the City of Sydney.
The City of Sydney is a proud participant in History Week, the statewide festival coordinated by the History Council of NSW. For more events visit the website.
