Anita Hochman returns to Sydney with an exhibition highlighting various seasons in time. Her inspirations include the landscape, as it expresses and translates her experience, including artworks created as resident artist at the Baer Art Center in Iceland and at the Tweed Regional Gallery in Murwillumbah.
A shift in her practice was prompted by the period of COVID-19 lockdown early in 2020 when she began to focus on her immediate environment. She turned her attention to painting the flowers, eucalyptus leaves, gumnuts and seed pods that she found in the backyard and on daily walks to the Brisbane River. The show features a suite of these botanical paintings. Media range from iridescent acrylic abstractions to delicate plein air watercolours, to oils on linen and photographic pigment prints.
Anita has held 22 solo exhibitions and been represented in over 100 selected and curated group shows. She has won awards in Australia and overseas, including an Australia Council New Work Grant and the Fondation Ténot Award, France. Her work is held in private and public collections in Australia, Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, the USA and Canada.
