Since 1985, The Ankali Project (Ankali) have supported people living with or affected by HIV by providing emotional and social support through trained volunteers. Volunteers are supported each step of the way from initial contact with the organisation, through the training program (three days over two weekends), and ongoing in volunteer-led support groups.
Ankali Volunteers and clients are supported by NSW Health Senior Social Workers.
There is no cost associated with becoming an Ankali volunteer.
In terms of time, there are initial commitments required for completing the application, attending the interview, and taking part in the three day training. Ongoing the time commitment is a couple hours each week or fortnight to a client, and a one hour fortnightly support group which can be attended in person, or virtually. We ask for a minimum six month commitment. The average time volunteering with Ankali at the moment is 4 years (ranging from 6 months to 31 years). If you have any questions, please visit Facebook, the website, or give the office a call to speak with a staff member.
