Ann Gordon is a contemporary landscape artist who paints directly from the Australian bush, either on canvas or in a journal.
Many of her works are created using handmade brushes formed from materials collected from the landscape. With a small palette of paints and charcoal, she creates intuitive, energetic and layered artworks that express the essence of the Australian landscape.
In her studio, she takes these smaller journal paintings and starts to work them into larger paintings.
'Driftline - Lines of Land. Layers of Sea brings together a mix of black and white works and layered colour paintings - all drawn from the landscape, but each offering a different way of seeing and feeling it.
The black and white paintings pare the landscape down to its essential lines and textures - revealing rhythm, form, and raw presence. Handmade brushes, created from natural materials, were used to make unique marks that reflect the physicality of the land itself.
The layered colour paintings, on the other hand, evoke mood and memory. Through shifting tones and built-up surfaces, they invite feeling as much as seeing.
Together, these pieces explore the meeting points - between land and sea, detail and depth, thought and sensation.' - Ann Gordon
Ann's work has been selected as a finalist in several art prizes including The Fishers Ghost, Gosford Art Prize and the Waverley Landscape Prize. She holds a Bachelor of Design Hons (Visual Communications), University of Technology.
