Australian World Orchestra
Conducted by Alexander Briger
In 2021 the multi-award winning and exhilarating Australian World Orchestra will bring together Australia's world-class musicians from around the nation for the world premiere of 'Symphony' by Australian composer Paul Dean, commissioned by the AWO in our 10th year and composed during lockdown. Paul Dean's first long-form Symphony is a reverent reflection on the brutal devastation caused by bushfires and humankind's impact upon our fragile ecosystems. This major new work will be premiered by the AWO, at their first visit to City Recital Hall as a full symphony orchestra.
Paul Dean's new work is Australian at its core, capturing the beauty of nature and culminating with an enormous expression of hope, as we await the beauty that emerges after the storm.
Our 2021 performance will also pay our respects to Beethoven who missed out on many of his 250th birthday celebrations in 2020, with the dramatic and sensitive Coriolan Overture. Schumann's Symphony No.2 will bring our 10th birthday celebration to an epic finale. This is one of the most expressive and deeply emotional works of the Romantic era and it brings the AWO immense pleasure to perform Schumann's greatest symphonic work alongside the rapturous and exquisite new 'Symphony' from Paul Dean.
Paul Dean, Symphony (2021) - World premiere
Ludwig van Beethoven, Coriolan Overture, Op.62 (1807)
Robert Schumann, Symphony No.2 in C major, Op.61 (1847)
