The National Film and Sound Archive is proud to partner with BIRRARANGGA Film Festival to celebrate global Indigenous films that explore strength, resilience and the environment.
A selection of 15 outstanding feature-length and short films from First Nations creatives around the world will screen at NFSA's Arc Cinema. The program also includes a panel conversation with international screen leaders who will explore the idea of Story Sovereignty and examine the age-old question of who gets to tell Indigenous stories.
First Nations relationships to the image as a form of expression are connected to thousands of years of cultural practices. Curated by Wurundjeri (Woiwurrung)/Yorta Yorta screen creative and actor Tony Briggs and producer/curator Damienne Pradier, BIRRARANGGA honours history and acknowledges the contemporary currency of the moving image as an expression of the human experience in relation to the natural surroundings.
Guests include screen creative, actor and co-curator Tony Briggs; activist, artist and actor Tāme Iti; screenwriter Boyd Quakawoot; and filmmakers Matthias Luafutu and Nina Nawalowalo.
Single tickets are available as well as discounted 3-Film and 5-Film passes.
BIRRARANGGA is a not-for-profit organisation that advances and promotes Indigenous filmmakers by encouraging innovative ways of thinking, creating and developing all Indigenous forms of the art of cinema. Donations over two dollars are tax deductible. Your generous support will help maintain the operation of Australia's only Indigenous-led film festival.
