intelligent animal and the Darlington Installation Project present Blame it on the Sunsets by Niki McDonald.
Blame it on the Sunsets is a window gallery exhibition of urban faces, spaces and attitudes made permanent in wool. The sass of urban life balanced with the pace of needlepoint tapestry.
'I'm saying that our urban environment empowers the women who embrace the colours, reflections, lights, and Sunsets' - Niki McDonald
Niki is inspired by the ephemeral and drawn to the mechanical nature of textile arts practice. Within the repetition and toiling is a space that allows her to connect with an intuition that inspires. The repetition of stitches echoes the pixels of digital work and the spray-paint used on the streets.
Artist bio
Niki McDonald uses contemporary needlepoint tapestries to explore the urban landscape and experience. 'Faces, spaces and attitudes,' are all themes in work, which often depict strong women against a colourful background that includes cultural references to today's society. She has a Bachelor of Creative Arts with a Major in Textiles and a Minor in Printmaking at Wollongong University.
