BOOM!, a week-long International Festival Of Percussion, will see two public concerts bookending and no less than 30 events emanating from the Seymour Centre: talks, workshops, masterclasses, international livestreams and Q&As.
The maiden festival will run from the 1st to the 8th of October 2022 with the opening concert at the Sydney Town Hall on Saturday the 1st of October followed by daily talks and workshops and evening concerts at the Seymour Centre from the 3rd to the 8th.
Festival highlights include three generations of Synergy Percussion, including Synergy's founder Michael Askill to share the stage at the Town Hall Concert.
International artists Kaoru Watanabe (Silk Road Ensemble, Kodo) Nacho Mena (Ornette Coleman, Marvin Gaye, Pat Martino, Don Cherry) and Art Music pioneer Fritz Hauser beaming in from the USA and Europe to give insights into their approach to music making.
Each day of the festival has a theme which informs the talks, workshops, and performances, and on Saturday the 8th of October (the closing day) there are free concerts and workshops at the Seymour Centre between 2pm and 7pm. This is followed by the BOOM! Closing concert featuring Circle of Rhythm, Gai Bryant's Afro-latin powerhouse Caribé and from Columbia ex Taikoz and Cirque du Solei artist Anton Lock with Tick Tick Boom!
