Over two days, YOU can build your very own old school rowboat!
We will provide you with pre-cut wood, all the tools and support you need to construct your boat.
All experience levels are welcome. If you can hammer a nail and ice a cake, then you can build one of our boats.
It's required you are 18+ or if you are between the ages of 12-18, an adult must accompany you.
Workshop Weekend Dates: Saturday 13 + Sunday 14 January
Timings: 8:30am - 5:30pm on both days.
Location: Uno Studios - 23 McCauley St Alexandria, 2015
Tea and snacks will be provided, although you will need to bring your own lunch or visit one of the surrounding cafes - time for lunch will be provided.
You will be responsible for transporting your boat home at the end of the second workshop day. You can strap it to roof racks on top of your car, place within a trailer or inside a bigger vehicle.
Not included: We don't include the undercoat, paint/varnish, primer, oars and rope - after the workshop, you can choose your own finishes and customise your boat!
About The Classic Row Boat:
Boat dimensions: 2.4m long x 1.3 m wide x 0.5m height
Built weight: 45kg
The Boat Building Experience:
Embarking on your own boat building project provides an opportunity to unleash your creativity and get hands-on with the construction process, all while tapping into the rich history of boat building.
'Handmade by YOU, our boat kit provides a great bonding experience between generations, and makes the dream of owning a boat a reality.' - Founder, Andrew Simpson
The kits are designed to ensure even the least handy individuals can successfully complete the project, and all that is needed is to follow the step-by-step instructions.
About The Balmain Boat Company:
The Balmain Boat Company creates flat-packed, DIY timber rowboat and sailboat kits. We have digitised the design and simplified the construction process, so that anyone can build a boat. Through our kits, we intend to inspire individuals to embark on creative projects, no matter their level of experience.
Our Founder, Andrew Simpson, who will be running our weekend workshops, is an Industrial Designer. All our boat designs were developed with his team at Vert Industrial Design House. Simpson believes in the untapped potential of mending and creating with one's hands. 'I love the prospect of engaging people with building something with their hands again. Everything is built by someone at some point - it's about not being afraid to get in there and get something done.'
