published: 26 Jun 2026, 5 min read
For serious Burgundy drinkers, Roland Lavantureux has become one of the most exciting modern names in Chablis because the wines somehow combine intensity, generosity and razor-sharp site expression without losing drinkability.
The family has deep roots in the village of Lignorelles, but it is the current generation - particularly brothers David and Arnaud Lavantureux - that pushed the domaine onto the world stage through lower yields, meticulous vineyard work and a more precise approach in the cellar. Collectors are increasingly drawn to Lavantureux because the wines sit in a sweet spot between classical old-school Chablis tension and the richer, more textural style that many top growers are now chasing. Unlike producers that rely heavily on winemaking signatures, Lavantureux wines are all about terroir clarity - Vau de Vey feels dramatically different from Beauroy, Bougros carries completely different scale and authority, and even the step from Petit Chablis into village Chablis becomes startlingly obvious in a tasting lineup. The domaine is also known for farming many older vine parcels, which gives the wines their extra concentration and layered texture while still preserving freshness and cut. In recent years, Lavantureux has become a favourite among sommeliers and Burgundy obsessives because the wines consistently outperform their appellation level - many people taste the Vieilles Vignes or Premier Crus blind and place them far above where they technically sit in the hierarchy. This masterclass is therefore not simply a Chablis tasting, but a rare opportunity to understand why Lavantureux has become one of the benchmark growers redefining what modern Chablis can look like.
