Connect Sydney is a City of Sydney program, funded by the Department of Communities and Justice. The program aims to build the capacity of community and not-for-profit organisations through the provision of free skills and governance training.

This training is primarily for organisations that support and provide services to children, young people, families and communities experiencing or at risk of vulnerability within the City of Sydney local government area.

If you're responsible for fundraising, including grant writing in your organisation and want to improve your knowledge and skills in writing successful grant submissions or securing more funding, this is the training for you.

This year, the Connect Sydney - Fundraising and grant application training will be delivered through two online sessions on Tuesday, 9 March 2021 and Wednesday, 10 March 2021. You are strongly encouraged to attend both sessions to get the most out of it.

Session 1 - fundraising on Tuesday, 9 March from 9.30am to 12pm covers:

  1. How to plan for funding

  2. How to ask for money - most people that give in cash or in-kind give because they have been asked. Learn how to successfully ask for money using a range of mediums

  3. How to raise secure, unattached and predictable income - untied money to use for your group's own priorities and decisions

  4. How to rally the troops - instilling a fundraising culture in your organisation

  5. How to get business to support your community group - the secrets to successful, and profitable, community-business partnerships

  6. How to ensure sponsors get what they expect

Session 2 - grant application writing on Wednesday, 10 March from 9.30am to 12pm focuses on:

  1. The best way to present your proposal - tell the story of your project and your group to get the greatest advantage

  2. How to develop your statement of need - choosing data to support your project proposal

  3. How to develop an 'organisational template' - to save time in writing applications and create a corporate memory that can be passed on

  4. How to humanise your story - presenting a compelling picture

  5. How to do budgets

  6. How to align your programs with the funding body's strategic priority and support it with evidence, data and outcomes.

The training will be delivered by Our Community.
