Two figures occupy a decrepit room, littered with clunkily modified pieces of Ikea furniture and cheap, spooky masks. There is no progression towards larger events, no narrative to uncover. Just time to waste.
This is Constant Nothing, a video performance about nothingness, boredom, and/or performance itself. Angus McGrath is interested in the way that the teenage subcultures surrounding punk and metal relish and most directly deal with the inevitable anxiety of our world through their contradictory embrace of extreme dramatics and spiritless disaffection.
About the artist
Angus McGrath is an artist, writer, and performer living and working on unceded Gadigal Land, born and raised in Canberra, on unceded Ngunnawal and Ngambri Land. McGrath's multimedia, text-heavy work circulates around excess, subculture, the limits of meaning, and the cinematic. McGrath has just completed a Masters of Fine Arts at UNSW blending fiction and theory as a malevolently bad map of queer being. McGrath also makes music under the name California Girls.
you're okay by Brand X is an art activation space located in the City of Sydney Creative Studio's street facing window. It showcases contemporary and experimental digital, performance and installation art directly to the busy footpath of Bathurst Street and the daily city commuters 24hours/day, 7days/week.
