New paintings by Tanya Assatourian and Christine McColl.

Artists Tania Assatourian and Christine McColl, both recent graduates of the National Art School, deal with the potential of painted surfaces to communicate the intangible.

'Conversations with Time', their upcoming show at The Shop Gallery in Glebe, deals with different ways in which time can be experienced. Tania reimagines the genre of still life with moody subdued colours, quirky perspectives and strange arrangements. Her aim is to throw the viewer off balance and get them to question how they stand in relation to the material world and its rigid progressions of time.

Christine's work depicts fantastical animals in vivid colours and strange relationships. These animals could inhabit a futuristic universe, or they could be survivors of some Anthropocene-induced disaster. Again, the viewer is asked to ponder their relationship to a world which is typically taken for granted.

Both artists will have a range of differently sized canvases and works on paper for sale. They will be in the gallery during the run of the show to discuss their works, art making processes and philosophies.

Covid-19 safe procedures operate at the gallery. We record names for contact tracing, supply hand sanitiser, disinfect our surfaces and have only 12 people in the gallery at a time, applying social distancing.
