'Contact Trace' at Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital, 8 Macquarie St, Sydney
Inviting reflection, hundreds of photographs captured during the year of the pandemic in our city will be projected onto the hospital's historic southern archway, Macquarie Street entrance. This cinematic, futuristic portal traverses the real and imaginary in Sydney with tales of humanity, fear and hope by John Janson-Moore, composer Andrée Greenwell, producer Jacqui North.
Artists: John Janson-Moore is a visual artist, photographer and filmmaker. He is a finalist National Photographic Portrait Prize 2021, a collaborative artist Sydney Biennale 2020 collaborative artist, winner Moran Prize for Contemporary Photography 2013. Composer Andrée Greenwell is known for her ground-breaking multidisciplinary works, having written over 100 scores including Sydney Theatre Company, Australian Dance Theatre, Bell Shakespeare and Queensland Music Festival. 'Bungaree' at Angel Place
Artist Leanne Tobin, a Dharug descendent, shares powerful First Contact stories on colonial sandstone walls. Inviting meditation in Angel Place, Leanne's work will be projected where the Tank Stream flowed and Gadigal people crafted stone tools. Bungaree of the Garigal clan (Broken Bay) was a teenager when the First Fleet sailed through the heads; he became a diplomat, interpreter and witty mimic of the colonials. Bungaree and his wives moved freely in the new colony, trading peaches and produce. He circumnavigated this country with the Royal Navy but unlike Captain Flinders and his cat, there is no statue for Bungaree.
Artist: Leanne Tobin is a Dharug woman with Irish and English ancestry who seeks to bring stories of First Nations people that are often absent, to light through art. 'My family became invisible, we went underground… but we are now in the process of renewal. For me it's that underlying country, it might be covered in concrete… but those rivers and creeks are still running; they still hold stories of country… Where people come together to create ceremony, that creates memory and shared, positive healing stories.'
'Love & Revolution' at 47 George St, Tallawoladah (The Rocks)
Gather to live not wait, to love not hate. Women unite the street with light-artworks and strong lyrics. Hear 2021's most awarded poet Sara Saleh, an Arab-Australian human rights lawyer and Candy Royalle, queer priestess of poetry (RIP) with street artist @Ms Saffaa.
