For older people or people with disability, it can be hard to afford to get and stay online. Data plans and mobile devices can be difficult to understand, and it can be difficult to work out what is most cost-effective.
For some people, using broadband internet may be next to impossible, so mobile plans and free data may be the only option.
Helping your clients get online can make it easier for them to keep in touch with family and friends. It can also widen their social horizons, and give them access to all sorts of social and cultural activities. Older people or people with disability can get more control over the changing world around them.
This training is designed for aged or disability support workers. It will help you give more power to your clients to stay engaged. You'll be trained to guide your client through the maze of options for getting online and to know what to look for in finding the most affordable and useful ways to be digitally connected.
Topics covered include:
How to choose a smartphone
How to choose a mobile phone plan
How to reduce data usage
Where and how to access free WiFi
How to use a phone as a WiFi hotspot
How to manage passwords for maximum security
Accessibility options on smartphones and tablets
This training is delivered in two sessions.
This training is offered in partnership by Inner Sydney Voice and Counterpoint Community Services, and supported by a City of Sydney COVID Quick Response Grant. Training sessions are provided by YourLink.
