We invite you to consider the Future of Cities, specifically how we can empower energy and housing. Join us for a panel discussion on how consumer products can be integrated with low carbon construction materials to reduce environmental impacts.

This panel is hosted by Current, a furniture startup using patent pending technology from Powerblocks.

The discussion will be chaired by Jo Jacobs - Award winning digital strategist, company director, co-Managing Partner of Disruptor Handbook, and Industry Fellow of the Entrepreneur Unit of UTS - Director of Disruptors Co.

Panel Participants (additional participants to be confirmed):

  • Evan Mudge - Energy infrastructure expert - Director at Engevity

  • Tanya Sheehan - Marketing and consumer expert - National Divisional Product Manager at Smeg

  • Julie Leung - Engineering and urban development - Founder and inventor at Powerblocks and Current

With the energy price rises seen this year from global commodity and geopolitical tensions it has never been more evident that we need to look to store our domestic renewable resource wealth so that we use less of the fuel exports that the world values more highly than we do. Despite having the highest per household penetration of solar in the world, this year we have been burning gas worth over $400/MWh to make electricity that sells for $300MWh for months. Solar is built for around $50-60/MWh over its life.

This topic is key to Current. and Powerblocks technology, which works on or off grid at household scale, leading to larger city and state impacts.

Could we switch to renewables and export our energy resources to finance much of our transition from windfall royalties? To do this we need storage at households, businesses, city, state and national scale.

In person attendance, doors open at 5pm. Digital cast will commence at 5.30pm.

Zoom link will be issued to digital attendees prior to the event, in the event reminder.
