Canopies and Cathedrals is a new video work by internationally recognised Western Australian artist David Carson. The screenings form the Australian premiere, following the on-site exhibition at The Chapter House in Wells Cathedral, United Kingdom.
The Chapter House was built in 1286 and is one of the high points of 13th-century architecture in Britain.
It is the only octagonal chapter house to be built as a first storey on top of an undercroft, which was the strong room of the cathedral.
Canopies and Cathedrals is an international collaboration between Western Australian artists David Carson and Sarah Robinson, and MPM, a UK-based electronic music ensemble. The transdisciplinary work is an exploration of the unique aspects of one of the world's oldest Gothic cathedrals and its correspondence with the natural environment. The artwork, originating in Western Australia, was presented at The Chapter House in Wells Cathedral, UK, in July 2025.

About the screenings
The City Urban Screens hosts a variety of screenings. In Northbridge, these range from formal events, such as feature films complete with bean bag seating for viewers, to more casual gatherings for sporting events and exhibitions (like this screening). Here, visitors can relax on the lawn, savour the renowned culinary delights of Northbridge, or enjoy a stroll along James Street, taking in the vibrant artwork.
