Susan Midalia's novel Everyday Madness and Josephine Taylor's Eye of a Rook both explore the physical and psychological effects of chronic illness on their female characters, and how the men in their lives struggle to deal with the crisis. Both novels are narrated from multiple perspectives that highlight different personal and historical responses to women's illness; and both novels offer the possibility of hope.
About Susan Midalia
Susan Midalia has published three short story collections, all shortlisted for major national literary awards: A History of the Beanbag, An Unknown Sky and Feet to the Stars, and two novels: The Art of Persuasion and Everyday Madness.
About Josephine Taylor
Josephine Taylor is an Associate Editor at Westerly Magazine and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Writing at Edith Cowan University. Josephine teaches in literary fiction and non-fiction. Her creative and critical writing has been anthologised and published widely and her first novel, Eye of a Rook, was released by Fremantle Press in 2021.
