American cave explorer Floyd Collins set out in 1925 to expand Kentucky's Sand Cave into a tourist attraction and instead became trapped in a narrow space 200 feet below ground. What followed was the first-ever media frenzy (via broadcast radio), as rescuers attempted to save Collins' life while he tried to keep his sanity. The musical uses a folk- and bluegrass-inspired score to tell the story of Collins chasing the American dream .
