Phoenix Central Park & Domino Recording Co presents Music for Psychedelic Therapy by Jon Hopkins: A Listening Experience.
Join us in the intimate and welcoming surrounds of The Nest for an evening of transcendence and inner clarity. Upon arrival, guests will be invited to be seated or lie down for an opportunity to connect with Jon Hopkins' critically acclaimed record in a new light. To conclude the evening, Hopkins will take to the Fazioli for a short solo improvised piano performance.
Recently cited by The New Yorker as 'One of the most celebrated electronic musicians of his generation', Hopkins has forged a reputation for music that marries the dance floor to the devotional, and for live performances that are visceral, generous and charged with a rapt, sensuous beauty. His output flows from rugged techno to transcendent choral music, from solo acoustic piano to psychedelic ambient.
Initially gaining exposure through his work with Brian Eno, Coldplay and King Creosote in the mid-2000s, Hopkins gradually found his voice as a solo artist, blending intricately crafted beats with serene, meditative textures. The Mercury Prize nominated Immunity (2013) and the Grammy nominated Singularity (2018), two intense, ambitious albums of spiritually-minded techno and ambient tracks, were among the decade's most lauded electronic albums.
Music for Psychedelic Therapy (released by Domino in 2021) is Hopkins' first full-length since those two sister albums. For this collection, Hopkins wanted to make something that faced the opposite direction, something egoless and introspective, made with total, raw honesty. It was a departure in sound from these records; 'an album with no beats, not one drum sound, something that is closer to a classical symphony than a dance / electronica record.'
'It felt like time for a reset, to wait for music to appear from a different place,' says Hopkins.
We look forward to welcoming you for this breathtaking and enveloping sonic journey in Sydney's most beautiful listening room.
