You've missed it! Abbotsford Convent's six week digital series, Kids' Home Publishing has been and gone since the program kicked off on Monday 15 June and ran till 24 July 2020. However, the instructional videos will still be available on the website and YouTube till the end of August 2020.
With Melbourne in Lockdown and kids kept indoors, it would have been criminal not to share this past fabulous event geared to ages 2 to 102. The videos are a cut above and inspirational and could kickstart you or the young-uns on the path to creativity, art and making your very own book. There's nothing like getting lost in your imagination in lockdown and doing something creative.
There are 12 videos to look through and all you need is access to the internet, paper, glue and scissors, and of course your imagination. You'll be guided by the kid-friendly Grand Imaginator (artist - animation, illustration, comics) alongside some brilliant local artists sharing their ideas and stories about The Art of the Book to get you started on your bookmaking journey.
Artists involved include Idil Ali, a Somali spoken word artist; Anna Walker, writer and illustrator; Hayley Tanzer, a musical diva who is a 2020 Studio Resident at the Convent; Mathew Gardine, a proud Wurundjeri educator; Bern Emmerichs, artist; John Wolseley, painter, printmaker and installation artist; Brigid May, teaching artist and storyteller.
The event may be over, but take advantage for the next month of creative ideas and inspiration and some crazy folding methods to make your own work of art. As it says, it's for the young and old to enjoy. What does the pic of The Convent Bakery takeaway van have to do with it? Nothing, except if you live around Abbotsford, you can head there every day from 8am to 3pm and this delightful pop-up van parked in the car park on St Heliers Street will be serving up your daily fix of caffeine and carbs; takeaway coffee, bread and pastries. Can't think of a more delightful local activity.
