Use images from the City of Sydney Archive to create a laser-cut printing plate and print your image on our press.
Led by an experienced facilitator in the Darling Square Library makerspace and members of the City history team, this workshop is a great introduction to laser-cut printmaking and the City of Sydney Archive.
You'll be guided through how to access historical images on the City's Archive to make a laser-cut etching plate. Once you're happy with your final design, we'll help you print it on our small press. You'll receive your etching and print during the class or by mail after the class.
What you'll learn
How to access the City of Sydney Archive
Basic digital design using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (No prior experience necessary).
Tools including colour manipulation, image correction and filters to prepare your image for laser cutting
Basic laser cutting and printmaking.
What you'll take home
1 professional laser cutting of your image and a print on printmaking paper. Designs are laser cut up to a maximum size of 15cm x 10cm.
If your design is not ready by the end of the workshop we will mail it to you.

Eligibility for concession price: The ticket purchaser must hold a valid NSW Pensioner, Senior or full-time student card. Valid proof of concession to be shown in advance or in person at the workshop. If valid proof of concession is not provided, the full rate will be required to be paid.
