Impressions from the gully.
Experience the fusion of ink drawings and prints in this captivating two-person exhibition featuring artists Drew Truslove and Mark Rowden. Line & Leaf invites viewers to immerse themselves in the beauty and diversity of a unique area while offering a fresh perspective on the natural world.
Drew Truslove's ink drawings offer a striking portrayal of the landscape. Standing on a single vantage point, Drew captures the ever-changing views of nature, revealing the intricate beauty of a singular location. Using black and blue ink with a dipping pen, Drew's drawings provide a pared-back, minimalist perspective of the scenery, allowing you to experience the landscape's essence through the lens of a single colour. The spontaneous and instinctual style of his work brings the wild nature of the bush to life, providing a sense of place that is both immersive and unique. His drawings for this exhibition are from a single point in the river running through Flat Rock Gully.
Mark Rowden adds his artistic voice to the conversation with his lino prints and prints of natural foliage. Mark's prints introduce a new dimension to the exhibition, showcasing the intricate details and textures of the natural world. His meticulous lino prints reveal the precision and depth of texture found in the environment, while his prints of natural foliage bring a tangible connection to the beauty of the outdoors.
Line & Leaf aims to not only showcase the local area's beauty, but to also shed light on its historical and cultural significance. In the context of contemporary visual arts practice, the exhibition allows viewers to appreciate and reconnect with the natural world, making it a relevant and timely exploration. This exhibition offers a chance to rediscover and appreciate the rich history and natural treasures outside, as well as bringing the nature inside.
