It doesn't feel quite right to call these September school holiday activities in troubled COVID times with everyone homeschooling, but there it is! Kids and parents can both take a break and breathe during what would have been the holidays. MPRG (Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery) is here to help keep everyone occupied with a series of activities that can be accessed from home. They require basic materials you should or may already have in the house. For the keen art and crafters, no need to wait for the official school holiday dates. The videos are already.

Young ones can go crazy creative and make collages, create indigenous animals and learn about their habitats, as well as creating watercolour and food dye artworks. No doubt some of the adults will be tempted to join in and learn as well. With inspiration from MPRG's collection, kids can create a Patrick Pound-inspired collage and learn about Pound's art of collecting photographs and objects.

Take a virtual tour of Pound's recent MPRG exhibition and learn how to create a themed collage. Inspiration can also be taken from Danie Mellor's work; An Unsettled Vision. It makes kids dig deeper to think about our native wildlife and their habitats and instructs kids to create their own collage work of a koala's home. Another video talks about how nature inspires artists so kids can learn how to borrow ideas to make their own artwork.

Start gathering interesting natural specimens from your garden or park and arrange and trace them with a permanent pen. Learn to use textas or food dye to create watercolours and paint a fab work on paper. There are fun tutorials from creatives like artist, musician and animator Jerome Rush; how to paint with decaf coffee, make a crazy crocodile hand puppet and more. It's not just the kids that can enjoy online art and craft time, adults and teens can also jump in and engage in age-appropriate activities. You can also check out a series of artist and exhibition videos; MPRG TV and podcasts as well
