Gil's creative interests, pursued throughout his adult life in the time available alongside - sometimes instead of - his proper jobs, included music (making it, helping others to make it, promoting it), sculpture, painting, and making digitised images from the many photographs he took.
Like many artists, Gil was more interested in making the work than in pursuing opportunities to promote or exhibit it. The main focus of this show is his sculpture, most of which has appeared in shows to 2015, some works on loan from their current owners. All of the sculptures are made from organic or inorganic materials to hand: junk, detritus, discarded objects - which, in Gil's hands, with his ability to see aesthetic potential and his witty sense of humour, found new life.
Included in the show are a few samples of the musical instruments he also made from materials to hand: oil-can guitars and ukuleles made from home-grown gourds.
There will also be a selection of the digitised images that friends will recognise as cards they received and kept.
In the background there will be images and music reflective of Gil's life, his inspirations and evolving preoccupations.
The Shop Gallery is the compulsory choice for this show, in recognition of Gil's friendship with Hilik, fellow creative ratbags in their younger days.
Dates: Thursday 27 April to Wednesday 3 May 2023
Opening times: 11.00 am to 6.00 pm daily
Official Opening: Saturday 29 April 2.00pm - 5.00pm
