Sarah's Fire, one of Black Gotham Experience's core stories, is set in 1664 on day two of British New York in the small town known as Land of the Blacks. The southern tip of Manhattan was home to free and enslaved Black People and this walk showcased the realities of urban slavery in a port city with strong ties to the sugar plantations of the West Indies. Sarah, for whom the tour is named, is one of 29 people who participated in Manhattan's first militarized Black rebellion on April 6, 1712. The tour meets at BGX Gallery at 192 Front Street on Thursdays at 5PM.
